Stafford Hot Clinic at Stafford General Infirmary is now open and available to all Stafford & Surrounds Practices, along with Aelfgar and Brereton Surgeries in Rugeley.

It operates from 8.30am-12.30pm and 1pm-5pm Monday to Friday at the following address:

The PURPOSE is to keep Covid-19 or potentially Covid-19 patients away from Practices. It is being seen as a critical and integral part to the stability of General Practice during the pandemic, and modelling has shown that it improves the outcomes for patients at this time.

PATIENTS WHO NEED TO BE SEEN MUST have been triaged by a GP and have a clear reason for referral that cannot be managed remotely.

This may be patients with symptoms of CV-19 who require further assessment due to general or respiratory deterioration, or additional clinical needs that requires immediate assessment.

This is NOT for patients with severe symptoms – these need to be referred for emergency admission, so if unable to complete sentences, rapid deterioration in breathlessness, evidence of significantly altered mental state, not passed urine in last 18 hours, or non-blanching rash/mottled/ashen/cyanotic, and if obs taken SpO2 <93%, BP<90 systolic, P>130, RR>25.

This is NOT for routine chronic disease management (unless Covid plus clinical exacerbation), for shielded patients, EOL patients, those that need a home visit, those that need any invasive procedures (incl. bloods/swabs/MSU). Most models suggest that patients should not be using public transport to getto the clinic.

The Hot Clinic now has NHS signage displayed at the front entrance and on the car park.  It may be useful to advise patients to park as close to Curry’s/PC World as they can, as this is closest to the main entrance.

If you feel it appropriate, you can advise a patient to search for Stafford Hot Clinic’ on YouTube before they attend their appointment so that they are aware of the clinic and how it operates – it may be pretty scary for some patients seeing the team in full PPE.
